DSLR

So, I ordered a camera last night. A Nikon D5000 with a 18-55mm VR wide angle auto-focus lens, to be specific. It should be arriving at my door by the end of this week. Exciting!

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed helps to control the brightness and clarity of the picture. If the object that you are taking a picture of is moving, then you will need to use a shutter speed that is faster than the object so that the picture will be clear. Also if you are going to have the shutter open for a long period of time then it is important to keep your hand steady as you take the picture or else you might end up with unwanted blurs. A good rule is to set your shutter speed depending on the lens you are using, so if you were using a 500mm lens, you would set your shutter speed to 1/500. You also have to adjust your shutter speed to the item that you are shooting and if you want it to look frozen.

Apertures

  1. The pupil of the human eye is a aperture opening because it allows light into the eye and can change the amount of light entering the eye.
  2. The larger the aperture the smaller the f stop number, and the smaller the aperture the larger the f stop number.
  3. Narrow apertures get a lot of objects in focus at once while a larger aperture can get one object in focus and the background blurry.

Pictures I've Taken

Even though this is a darkroom photography class all these pictures are digital. :) Just because I've never actually done film before....you will also notice how all these pictures are either flowers or trees. That's just cuz I haven't gotten the chance to have someone model for me...
